Turkey Trot & Seattle Half Marathon
Updated: Dec 10, 2018
After finally feeling settled in Seattle, I figured it was time to start running some races. I ran the Magnuson Series Turkey Trot 5k on Thanksgiving morning and ran the half marathon on Sunday.
I used to run Turkey Trots with my dad when I was living in California. I didn't run one last year because Michael and I were preparing for Milo's arrival (Crazy that we adopted him one year ago!) so this is the year to make it a tradition again. I wasn't aware that Magnuson Series held a bunch of races. The course was nice and scenic and right along the water. I had no intention of racing this 5k, but thought I would run at a pace I thought would get my heart rate pumping. I didn't even think to look at my watch and ended up running the 5k in 24:38 at 7:57/M. I placed 3rd in my age group which was actually the best way to start my Thanksgiving morning. I invited Lynn to run this race with me also. She, too, had a great time!
On Sunday, Lynn and I ran the Seattle Half Marathon. I have been running a lot with Lynn during her training so it was nice to run along side her for the half. It was my first time doing the Seattle Half Marathon. This race started in 1970 and was actually started by a group of friends from the University of Washington. It was a great course (hilly, but great), wonderful weather and awesome crowd! We had great convos for 13.1 miles and finished the race strong.
