100 Mile MAYhem Challenge

Happy first of the month!


May is a new month. A crazy, busy, but new month. I proposed a challenge to my boyfriend and a few friends for a 100 Mile MAYhem run.. Meaning we all aim to log 100 miles, at any pace, any time, with our best effort within the next 31 days. The month of May is filled with travels and it’s the month leading up to Ironman 70.2. I wanted to create something where a few friends can get involved while challenging themselves at the same time.


Now, a 100 mile month is nothing new to me. Back when I was living in the Bay Area, working in the city, I felt like I would run everywhere. (Heck- I was once an ultramarathoner, but who knows.. Maybe the ultra endurance life will resurface next year!) Then life happened, as it has a tendency to do- I moved to Seattle, got a new job, got a dog, decided to pursue higher education, created a new routine. Then WINTER HAPPENED. The miles I’d once rely on to keep my sane were slowly replaced by excuses. I’m too tired, I’m hungry. It’s snowing. HA, this was my ultimate excuse which caused my perfectly great training to go all the way down hill.


As the month of April progressed, I got back on top of my training. With the month of May here, I challenge you all to do something that pushes you past your comfort zone. That is where we become better, stronger and faster! We can all use this 100 mile month goal as momentum for our next race, for summer, for trying something new. It will simply serve as a reminder to decide what you want and move toward it. The first step is always the hardest after all!


I will do my best to keep you all accountable the next 31 days and vice versa. I will be your biggest cheerleader. Let me know if you want in on the fun. You can add me on Nike+ Running, just search my name! And who knows? Maybe you’ll even get a little reward for being the first to 100!
